The biggest Info-Portal about Dahab

Dahab-Info.com started on nov. 11th. During the first month, until dec 11th, the Dahab-Info-Portal had 2.476 visitors and 15.659 Page Impressions. That’s quite impressive, considering that the major search engines need about 2-3 month to properly index a new website.

The website started with a big party on nov 11th (“The Party”) in TOTA, with 100 free beers, free Henna Tattoos and a multimedia-presentation of the website. One day before, the website was pre-presented to the businessmen and –women of Dahab in the Hotel “Golden Europe” in Masbat.

Dahab-Info.com is the biggest website about Dahab from the very start. More then 200 Infopages about Hotels, Apartments, Diving, Surfing, Safaris, Tourist-Info, and much more had been online since the middle of November. In the graph below you can see the impressive number of pages indexed by Google.com. You can try it by yourself, typing: “domain: dahab-info.com”.

The main focus lies on usability for foreign visitors: All the info about hotels, divecenters, safaris, etc. can easily be reached by the navigation bar, a big sitemap informs quickly about all important pages – and every page has a printer-friendly version. An interactive city-map shows all the hotels and important places by moving the mouse over the high resolution picture. The website can be browsed even with mobile phones and by handicapped persons as a Text-only Version. RSS-Feeds provide worldwide accessible news from the page and the volunteer rangers on www.dahab-info.com/vr

The visitors of Dahab-Info.com come from all over the world: Egypt (most of them locals from Dahab), Germany, UK, Netherlands, France and Austria.

Publisher of Dahab-Info.com is Roland Kissling, an Austrian journalist and web-manager. Roland is living in Dahab since april this year, and still working for the Computerwelt Austria. Co-workers are his long-term friend Emam Samy, his wife Hennie Kissling, and Amin Fahmy, which started the first Internet-Café in Dahab back in 1997. Further supporters are the Hungarian divemaster Emese Liliom and the Austrian actor and (video-) photographer Oliver Gross.

40 hotels, 36 divecenters, and dozens of other businesses like tour operators, shops, doctors, etc. have been included already – without any cost, because the website is commission-based. Additional advertisement for top promotion-places and highly visible banners and flying objects in the page are also available.

The idea about the portal originally developed some months after the attacks from april 26th – while thinking about how to bring more tourists to Dahab’s businesses. “A travel-expert told us that a region like Dahab is mainly visited by individual travellers. And these kind of tourists book their holidays more and more over the internet”, Roland tells about the origin of the portal. The goal is to open the portal to all the businesses of Dahab, and attracting tourists from all over the world in a very professional way.

Have fun!

Roland, Mimo, Amin & Hennie
