Windsurfing in Dahab

Dahab is a widely unknown Surfing-Jewel for wind- and kitesurfing, as well for a relaxing and pittoresque nightlife. The mountains on the coast help to blow strong winds all over the year. And the spacious and flat lagoon is perfect for beginners to learn.

A good 300 days a year of wind!
Dahab lies in the wind tunnel of the gulf of Aquaba - here the wind blows with full stength on the Lagoon. A further cause for the all year round strong winds is the thermionics and simultaneous diversons of the winds. Therefore it blows here more strongly and more frequently than otherwise at the Red Sea.

Dahab Wind Conditions

According to the latest wind statistics, Dahab has up to 28 wind days from March until October, with more than 4 hours sailing wind. Also in the winter months, at least half of the days you will have strong winds. Wind 2004 - Windguru Forecasts - Laguna Cam - Windfinder

Sommer (Mai-September): steady winds, wind peak before noon
Winter: wind comes in waves of ~4 days, then 3 days no wind

Where to go
You will find the best Windsurfing spots about 2 km south of Old Dahab (Masbat) in the so-called Lagoon of Dahab-City. Here the water is perfect both for beginners and advanced surfers. The area is surrounded by 5 big hotels, each of them offering Surfing centers where you can rent or store equipment.

Accommodation in this area starts from minimum 25 Euro per night, and also daily life (food, supermarket, internet) is more expensive than in Old Dahab (Masbat, Mashraba). If you choose cheap hotels or camps in Old Dahab, you will have to shuttle by taxi for 10 LE in one direction.

Nightlife
Dahab is ... different. Dont expect nightlife like in Ibiza. Although there are daily parties in the big bars, nightlife is more about relaxing and smoking Shisha, having a good meal and a beer. Dozens of restaurants on the bohemian beach of Masbat offer very comfortable seats, relaxing music and fresh fish. Take a Quick Tour about Dahab!

All Surfcenters except Negm Paradise are located in the Laguna-area, with a long sandy beach, easy entry and long shallow area.

Surf Spots
Surfspots are mainly in the laguna area (see below, 1-4), or at the Lighthouse reef (5). Experienced surfers can even move up- and downwind a few kilometers until Blue Hole, or southern parts of the coast.
